Introduction

The Department of Applied Mathematics of the Universitat Politècnica de València and the Departments of Algebra, Geometry and Topology, Mathematical Analysis and Applied Mathematics of the Faculty of Mathematics of the Universitat de València offer an interuniversity master's degree with an academic and research orientation that is fundamentally aimed at preparing students for the future completion of a doctoral thesis. In fact, this master's degree is the training period of the PhD in Mathematics, an interuniversity UPV-UV programme with a Mention of Excellence, and once the master's degree is completed, direct access is granted to the research period of the PhD programme

Class times are mostly in the afternoon and there is the option of part-time enrolment.

Objectives

The general objective of the programme is to train professionals, researchers and teachers of high academic level capable of generating, disseminating, teaching and applying new mathematical knowledge in the basic sciences and engineering.

The aim is therefore to provide students with specialised and advanced training in mathematics, as well as to prepare those who wish to continue their research training with a view to writing a doctoral thesis. To this end, the modules offered have been designed to bring students into contact with the problems and techniques most closely related to the lines of research being carried out by the different researchers in the departments participating in the programme.

Aimed at

Graduates of Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics and Business Administration; in addition to graduates in any Engineering field.

Admission criteria

  • Qualifications mentioned previously

Admission to the master's degree for graduates of degrees that meet the recommended admission profile but with a teaching load of less than 240 ECTS (diploma, technical engineering or others) is viable, if they are admitted in the selection process. In these cases, if the Academic Coordination Committee considers it appropriate, it will advise the student to undertake complementary studies that will enable them to improve their level.

Students applying for admission to the master's degree must accredit a minimum of 30 credits of subjects with a high mathematical content.

For the admission and selection of students, criteria of academic excellence will be used, in which the academic record will be the main consideration. Student exchange agreements between the two universities responsible for the master's degree and the sending universities of potential applicants for admission will also be taken into account, where they exist.

Pre-registration

It is carried out via the internet, on the website www.upv.es/posgradooficial, within the ordinary deadlines approved by the competent body. For foreign graduates not residing in Spain who need to apply for study visas, there will be the possibility of pre-registering in advance, so that they will have their final admission in sufficient time to process their visa. For this purpose, the pre-registration application form will be open for the entire course.
