Introduction

Sustainable economic and environmental growth is one of the most important challenges facing our society in the coming decades. In line with this concern, in 2020, the European Union adopted the "Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy" with the ambitious goal of reducing emissions from the transport sector by 90% by 2050 and reaching 30 million zero-emission vehicles by 2030. This implies a technological revolution in the field of propulsive systems, which requires highly trained professionals in the broad spectrum of challenges facing the industry, and in particular in the scientific and technical fields relevant to the energy transformations in these systems.

The CMT University Research Institute - Clean Mobility & Thermofluids is a leader in studying sustainable propulsive plants for means of transport (land, sea and air). From basic research to applied projects in collaboration with industry, the Institute has demonstrated its commitment to advancing knowledge and training professionals in this field. With extensive experience and experimental and calculation resources, the Institute provides a privileged environment for the comprehensive training of future researchers and professionals.

Reinforcing this commitment, CMT - Clean Mobility & Thermofluids offers a Master's Degree in Propulsive Systems for Sustainable Mobility. This program provides advanced training in the key technical and scientific aspects of propulsive systems, preparing students to address the challenges of sustainable mobility in the 21st century.

Objectives

The purpose of the Master's Degree in Propulsive Systems for Sustainable Mobility is to provide students with knowledge, criteria and methodologies for developing more efficient and environmentally friendly motor plants to lead the future of this exciting field. Specifically, it seeks to contribute to students developing the following competencies:

  • Identify the main thermo-fluid dynamic processes that influence propulsive systems, determine their performance, emissions, and environmental impact, and master the theoretical and experimental tools for their analysis.
  • Develop critical thinking applied to propulsive systems, identifying fundamental aspects and proposing appropriate solutions, considering sustainability criteria and technical and economic viability.
  • Analyse the feasibility of various alternatives to traditional propulsive systems, from a detailed analysis of the thermo-fluid and chemical principles that govern them to system-level evaluation using life cycle analysis techniques..
  • Contribute to developing theoretical and experimental techniques that allow more efficient and precise development of propulsive systems.

The final objective of this master's degree is that its graduates have a positive impact on the development of sustainable propulsive plants in the following areas:

  • Contribute to the progressive decarbonisation of propulsive systems by reducing CO2 emissions in line with international commitments and agreements between the ACEA and the EU.
  • Contribute to reducing gaseous pollutant emissions, including carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons and particles, both in combustion engines and in combustion-free technologies.
  • Contribute to reducing the acoustic impact of propulsive systems, considering aspects of sound quality and subjective noise, especially relevant in electric vehicles.
